Introduction
My name is Brian. I am autistic and have a special interest in food. This has led me to share with others anything I can to help them with their food journey.
Mission
My goal with this site is to help present information about cooking. Being autistic, I know the desire to know and understand more, to ask why. This is why I don’t want to just list a quick and easy recipe, but I also want to provide the explanation for each ingredient, method, equipment used, etc.
What Food Means to Me
I believe food is one of the most important parts of our lives. There are three examples I think illustrate this well.
There was a study done where the participants were prompted every hour to rate their happiness on a scale of 1-10. The study found that happiness correlated more with food than anything else, including sex.
When people immigrate to another country, the part of their old country that they hold onto the longest is usually food. They may drop the language, they may even change their religious beliefs of practices, but the food from the old country stays. In fact, it can make it through multiples generations born in the new country.
People in prison often find food to be what they miss most. They often stop to get something to eat before even seeing all their family. One example I saw was a man whose prized possession in prison was a photo of his mother standing at the stove. That moment right there, seeing her cooking, is the best moment of the day because you know some delicious food cooked with love is coming very soon.
